Lisa Beckwith is a founding principal of Value Capture, LLC. She provides on-site support and training for leaders, managers and staff to help them rapidly achieve safety, quality and financial goals through the application of systems principles. As a pharmacist, she has a particular expertise in helping partners perfect medication delivery. Ms. Beckwith previously served as pharmacy operations manager and pharmacist at a large regional hospital. As a manager she was introduced to the principles of the Toyota Production System and served as a team leader for the pharmacy staff. She continued to help other healthcare workers to apply the principles of the Toyota Production system to their work through training and problem solving as a TPS team leader at the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative. Ms. Beckwith began her career as a pharmacist for a retail pharmacy.
Hayley Brugos is a Client Advisor at Value Capture, LLC. She provides on-site support and training for leaders, managers and staff to help them rapidly achieve safety, quality and financial goals through the application of systems principles. She has 11 years of experience working with healthcare facilities in waste minimization and efficiency improvement. As the Medical Outreach Manager for Global Links, she managed the Environmental Stewardship in Healthcare program and used her experience in process improvement and cross-departmental team building to drive extensive program growth. In her role as Sustainability Officer, she led efforts to optimize environmental, social and financial concerns both internally and at a number of healthcare facilities. Ms. Brugos also has an advertising/marketing background and volunteers with an organization that provides crucial services to the Samaná Province of the Dominican Republic.
In the decade prior to joining Value Capture, José Bustillo served as Senior Sensei and Executive Coach for clients throughout the healthcare industry. Accomplishments Mr. Bustillo’s partners achieved include: 25% length of stay reduction; 40% readmission rate reduction; 30% average cost per case reduction; 20% patient and physician satisfaction improvement; and, reduction of Emergency Department admission waiting time by 95%.
Before working with healthcare clients, Mr. Bustillo worked in Manufacturing Operations in various management positions, where he successfully led multiple transformations within multiple plants located in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, El Salvador, and Dominican Republic.
Well-known for system-wide Lean deployments, Mr. Bustillo was recognized as a sensei to ThedaCare, Inc., by Kim Barnas in her book, Beyond Heroes, for his counsel in ThedaCare’s Lean transformation. Earlier in his career, Mr. Bustillo was mentored by Clyde Haugan from Kaizen Institute. Mr. Bustillo is passionate about developing people at all levels to create lasting change in processes and outcomes.
Leslie Corak is a founding principal of Value Capture, LLC. She provides on-site support and training for leaders, managers and staff to help them rapidly achieve safety, quality and financial goals through the application of systems principles. Ms. Corak has over 20 years of direct hospital clinical experience where her career responsibilities have included the coordination of the Infection Control, Employee Health and Quality Improvement programs. In her role as the Utilization Review Coordinator she was responsible for patient education and discharge planning. Immediately prior to joining Value Capture, Ms. Corak worked with The Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative (PRHI) as a Real-Time Safety Implementation Specialist, where utilizing the principles of the Toyota Production System she mentored and supported hospitals committed to the identification and elimination of unsafe conditions. One of Ms. Corak’s partner hospitals reduced errors reaching a patient by more than 50% in a single year.
Shana Padgett is passionate about improving the lives of patients and the organizations that care for them, and she has led change initiatives for more than 25 healthcare organizations during her career. Ms. Padgett is a motivational leader and dedicated partner with a track record for exceeding client expectations. She is an experienced facilitator, trainer and coach, with years of experience leading organizations in the planning, execution and sustainability of strategic improvement initiatives for quality, affordability and service.
Ms. Padgett has worked to improve care delivery systems across the continuum of settings and systems, including public, private, university, government and socialized care systems. Her specialties include: Lean & Toyota Production System, organizational alignment, strategic partnerships, customer experience, six sigma, quality & performance improvement, training & mentoring; team leadership & development, change management, leadership development & coaching, organizational transformation, and project management.
Meghan Scanlon is a principal of Value Capture, LLC. She has nearly 13 years of experience implementing and sustaining transformational improvements in healthcare organizations. Recently, she helped lead Value Capture’s support of the University of Virginia Health System’s Be Safe performance transformation effort. Previously, she spent nine years as a senior lean consultant in Johnson & Johnson’s ValuMetrix Services® organization, where she had a proven track record of driving key operational changes in hospitals and healthcare facilities in North America and Europe.
Ms. Scanlon has extensive experience developing hospital employees from the front line to the C-suite as lean practitioners and change agents, working with cross-functional groups to transform their performance and service levels, developing plans to implement change at all levels of an organization, identifying critical performance measures, and creating management tools needed in order to manage and sustain improvements. She is skilled at designing and delivering effective training sessions focused on process improvement, change management and leadership. Prior to her work in ValuMetrix Services®, she spent over three years internally within Johnson & Johnson, where she attained her lean six sigma black belt applying process excellence in the areas of operations, supply chain and IT.
Ken Segel is a co-founding principal of Value Capture and serves as managing director of the firm. In this role he provides support to CEOs of healthcare organizations dedicated to eliminating injuries and improving quality as a means to dramatically raise the clinical and financial performance of the entire institution. Prior to forming Value Capture, Mr. Segel served as the founding director of the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative (PRHI), which achieved best-in-nation regional results in the elimination of several classes of risk for patients. Before helping to create PRHI, Mr. Segel served for five years as senior program officer at the Jewish Healthcare Foundation of Pittsburgh, where he guided many community health improvement initiatives and initiated the Foundation’s formal public policy program. Earlier in his career, Mr. Segel served as an aide to the leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives, directed the overnight operations in the 1992 Clinton-Gore presidential campaign “War Room,” and served as policy director and speechwriter for the Democratic Party. He also taught political organizing and election monitoring in Ukraine and Russia.
Mr. Webster is a co-founding principal of Value Capture. In this role he provides support to CEOs of healthcare organizations dedicated to perfecting worker and patient safety and unleashing the full potential of employees by empowering them to design value-added meaningful work. Prior to forming Value Capture, Mr. Webster was a co-founder and Director of the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative (PRHI). He helped conceptualize, develop and lead this regional performance-based health reform initiative, achieving best-in-nation regional results in the elimination of several classes of risk for patients. A former healthcare consultant in New Jersey and at the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Mr. Webster also served as Executive Director of the Consumer Health Coalition from 2000-2004, where he led the promotion of health policy and system changes that improved the health and healthcare of children, seniors, people with disabilities, and people who have difficulty accessing healthcare services. He was also Director of Policy at the Jewish Healthcare Foundation from 1996-2000, supporting statewide advancements in children’s health insurance and managed care policy and helping to spawn the PRHI.
